HHS Rejects FDA Mercury Warning

 In Mercury in dental fillings

In 2011, the FDA suggested the Department of Health and Human Services adopt a policy encouraging dentists to stop using mercury dental fillings to treat tooth decay in pregnant women, nursing moms, and children under six, along with people with mercury allergies, kidney diseases, and neurological problems. The proposal went on to suggest mercury should be avoided in dental restorations for all people when possible. These suggestions are in line with those adopted by the ADA and holistic dentists everywhere several years ago.

If you are looking for a metal-free dentistry practice in the Beaverton area of Oregon, call Bright Smile Dental Care at 503-848-3606 and schedule an appointment with Dr. Michael Negru.

After four years of consideration, the HHS rejected the FDA’s proposal last week, based not on scientific findings, but on a cost/benefit analysis. In other words, there is no rejecting the claim that metal fillings may pose a serious health risk, but requiring dentists to find alternatives could potentially impact profits.

As a holistic family dentist, Dr. Negru places the health and safety of our patients as his top priority. Believing all patients, not just those at increased risk, deserve the safest and most effective restorations, Dr. Negru only offers nontoxic tooth colored fillings.

If you are interested in replacing your metal fillings or simply learning more about our advanced dental practice, please contact us online or call 503-848-3606 to schedule a consultation today. We welcome patients from Beaverton, Aloha, Hillsboro, and all surrounding Oregon communities.
