What Should I do if I Lose a Tooth?
If you lose a permanent tooth through trauma, it is important to take immediate action. Beaverton dentist Dr. Michael Negru can often salvage the tooth if proper steps are followed, but waiting can lead to infection of the socket and make restoring the natural tooth impossible. Please call 503-848-3606 to schedule an emergency visit right away.
When you lose a tooth, you need to:
- Locate the tooth
- Pick the tooth up by the crown. Avoid touching the root. If the tooth is dirty you can rinse it under water
- Put the tooth back into its socket. Hold it in place with gauze, a washcloth, or another clean and soft item. If the tooth cannot be placed back into the socket, tuck it in between your cheek and gums or place it in a glass of cold milk
- Call our office and schedule an emergency visit. If we are not open or Dr. Negru is unable to see you right away, go to the closest hospital emergency room for immediate assistance
If saving your natural tooth proves impossible, Dr. Negru offers a range of functionally superior and aesthetically pleasing tooth replacement options. Please contact Bright Smile Dental Care online or by calling 503-848-3606 to schedule a consultation and learn more about your options.
