AM I A CANDIDATE FOR IMPLANT DENTISTRY?

At Bright Smile Dental Care, we offer a variety of options to replace missing teeth. Dental implants are by far the most effective solution to restore optimal levels of oral health. They are the only permanent tooth replacement option, and the only restoration which replaces both your missing tooth and root. As a result, Dr. Michael Negru recommends dental implants for all patients who are good candidates.

Unfortunately, this procedure is not right for everyone. While this page will discuss the basic criteria for dental implant candidacy, the only way to assess your unique condition is to speak with Dr. Negru in person. Call Us Today to schedule a consultation at our Beaverton implant dentistry office.

IMPLANT DENTISTRY CANDIDACY CONSIDERATIONS

Dr. Negru will evaluate a wide range of factors when determining whether you are a good dental implant candidate. In general, ideal candidates must fulfill the following criteria:

• In good general health

• Have adequate jawbone density to accommodate a dental implant

• Free of periodontal disease

• Do not take any medications or suffer from any conditions which can adversely impact bone healing

• Nonsmoker, or are willing to quit during the dental implant procedure and throughout the recovery period

• Willing to commit to the lengthy dental implant process and recovery period

Failure to meet all of these criteria doesn’t necessarily rule you out as an implant dentistry candidate. Patients who do not have adequate bone structure may be able to undergo a bone graft that will allow them to accommodate dental implants,or they can pursue All-on-Four treatment. In addition, Dr. Negru can provide you with periodontal treatment to get gum disease under control, allowing you to move forward with the dental implant procedure.

If for some reason you are not a good candidate, Dr. Negru may recommend alternative options such as dental bridges or dentures.

THE DANGERS OF WAITING TO REPLACE MISSING TEETH

It is crucial to act quickly. Failure to replace missing teeth in a timely manner can lead to the development of serious oral health issues down the road. Your teeth can shift to fill in the space left by your missing tooth, causing bite alignment problems. You may also start to experience deterioration of bone and gum tissue which will jeopardize your ability to accommodate a dental implant. Even if you are a suitable implant dentistry candidate right now, you may not be once these serious oral health problems develop.
